It has been quite a while since I've blogged, but I've been a bit busy these days! I now have baby number two and he's almost 5 months! I tried to keep busy while he was still in my tummy and was able to get some fun desserts in, but never got around to posting, so here's a huge bunch of scrumptiousness coming your way!
First off, this was the best Mother's Day ever! My sweet girl and I went to Publix where they had a 'decorate a cake' event for your Mom. It was special because I love cakes and my girl always wants to help! She's a girl after my own heart, and she's not half bad!
This was a fun order to fill---Chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese icing and beautiful baby sprinkles!
Since this was a little while back, I don't honestly even remember what this was for....probably some leftover batter? Either way, it was delish!
We have had a bunch of activity in our Apartment Complex during the last year or so, and they had a 'decorate a cupcake contest' one afternoon. So, my sweet girl and I went on down...I had to hold myself back...
What a wonderful year 2013 was--my amazing husband graduated Vet School! I was so proud of him I couldn't help but throw a party! And there's no such thing as a party without cake... Chocolate cake with Cream cheese icing, one of his favorites. I tried out a new technique and it went pretty well....not perfect by a long shot, but not too bad.
And some yummy mini-cupcakes! With mini reese's cups and mini rolos....mmmm
Some yummy dipped strawberries --these never get old.
One of the greatest experiences my little girl and I have had yet was putting together her birthday cupcakes for school. She insisted on having a Peter Pan birthday, and since we couldn't get an actual party together I figured I'd bust out some awesome cupcakes...it worked out...a little fondant and some gummy candy?
My big 4 year old, helpin' out!
She was SO excited about the little swords!
We decided to add a little pirate treasure in the form of a pearl to top them off!
Here's a little 'tutorial' on my first ever 'crazy cake'--- my sweet nieces turned one last year and my sister wanted the party to follow in their baby shower's footsteps and have a birdie cake! Even though I was really pregnant, I really, really wanted to do this for my sweet twin nieces. It was exhausting, and trial and error producin', but so fun!
Bakin' away!
Crumb-coatin'....
Forming the top of our birdcage...
Bam!
SO, this is rough stuff. I almost had a stroke when I put that fondant over the top of my beaut..
It was awful. I kinda just had to roll with it. I strongly believe in the power of 'fixin' things, so when something goes wrong, there is always a way to fix it. I would NEVER trash something unless it's inedible (or gross)...and that hasn't happened yet. Phew.
Getting there.
My little Twin birdies!
And voila! A birdcage in a birdbath...fun stuff. I feel like it's a little whimsical, no?
When Halloween rolled around I was dying to try out some mummy cupcakes...
This was one of my first tiered cake. They were chocolate and vanilla with chocolate ganache. And a fun little royal icing flower to top it off. It was also a chance to try out some stringin' work.
Not perfect, but again, a good practice.
This one was prepin' me for having a little boy myself! It was so fun to do fondant trains.
I think this is one of my all time favorites! It was delish! Chocolate cake with butter cream icing, chocolate butter cream borders, fondant flowers, and ganache on top! Simple, yet superb.
Happy Easter! These were delightfully fun to do! I had a good little taste-tester too! Chocolate covered Peeps and bunnies. Maybe I'll do these again this year?
